If you’re getting ready for a new baby, one thing I cannot recommend enough is having postpartum freezer meals ready to go.

When I had my first, I didn’t prep anything. I figured I’d just cook like normal and it would be fine. It was not fine.

By the time I had my third, I knew better. Having meals already made that I could just heat up made such a difference. You’re tired and recovering, trying to figure everything out so the last thing you want to do is stand in the kitchen.

I found it extremely helpful to have a months worth of dinners and breakfasts but even just a few will help more than you think.

These are meals that actually hold up after freezing. Not weird textures, not dried out, just real food you’ll actually want to eat.

This is one of those meals that just works. It freezes really well and reheats without drying out. Make it in a foil pan and you’re done.

These are nice because you don’t have to thaw a whole tray. You can take out a few at a time which helps a lot with food waste.

A Few Things That Make Postpartum Freezer Meals So Much Easier

Before you start, there are a few things that make prepping postpartum freezer meals so much easier.

Good freezer containers make a big difference.

Having a mix of glass containers and foil pans makes it easy to store full meals or smaller portions.

Gallon freezer bags are a must for soups, chili, and anything you want to stack flat.They save space and make it easier to actually fit everything in your freezer.

Meal prep labels will save you from guessing what’s what later.Just writing the name and date makes things so much easier.

Final Thoughts

You don’t have to do all of this at once.

Even making a few postpartum freezer meals ahead of time will take so much pressure off those first couple weeks. It’s one less thing to think about when everything else feels new.

If you’re in that phase right now, just start with a couple. It doesn’t have to be perfect.
