5 Disgusting Facts About Your Bed
1.) It is covered in sweat.
We all sweat right?
Sure, maybe some less than other, but we all do it.
Study’s show that you can sweat up to one liter while you’re sleeping.
Where does all this sweat go? Your pillows, your sheets, and your mattress.
Overtime this can lead to growth of harmful bacteria and mold. Yuck 🤢
2.) And dead skin cells
In your lifetime you shed approximately 100 pounds of dead skin.
You spend about 1/3 of your life in bed.
You do the math.
3.) It is home to many little dust mites
Speaking of dead skin. Do you know who just loves to eat it? Dust Mites
For those of you who don’t know, dust mites are microscopic organism that can be found in your bed feeding on your dead skin cells.
There are said to be 100,000 to 10 million of these little guys on your mattress right now.
4.) It is covered in fecal matter.
What goes in must come out they say.
Yes, you guessed it. Those creepy little crawlies are pooping in your bed.
5.) It gains weight.
I almost didn’t believe this one at first, but it makes sense.
Some of the sweat, dead skin, dust mites, and fecal matter get absorbed by your mattress.
This means that after time it will weigh more than when you bought it.
Well Now What?
Now you just never sleep again.
I’m kidding, you have to sleep.
Because I am just so nice, after finding out these disgusting facts I dug even deeper into the internet to find out what to do about this horrifying discovery.
Your fitted sheet is not doing enough to prevent your mattress from absorbing the filth.
Keep it! I’m not saying get rid of it, it definitely helps.
What helps even more though is a quality mattress pad, preferably water proof like this one here.
Wash it! Wash it all!
The pillows, the pillow cases, the comforter, the sheets, the mattress pad! It’s recommend you wash them all once a week.
I just learned recently that regular laundry detergent doesn’t kill all the germs. To sanitize your laundry you need to add a laundry sanitizer like this one.
And then wash yourself!
Taking a shower and exfoliating before bed will keep it cleaner.
How old is your mattress? The older it is, the more it is filled with sweat, dead skin, dust mites, and their fecal matter.
It is recommended that you replace your mattress every 5 to 10 years.
