I was very determined to succeed and I muddled through it all. I figured it out, started my blog, and it has been one of THE BEST decisions I have ever made in my life!
Just see here how I made over 70k in one year with my mommy blog.

Once you’re there click get started!
Step Two: Select A Plan
Step two in starting a mommy blog is selecting a plan.
If you’re in this to try to make money I definitely recommend not going any lower than the choice plus account.
You need these better features to be able to create a secure website that looks professional and is able to help you make money.
I can’t stress enough, if you want to make money blogging DO NOT get a free website with Wix.com or another free platform.
No one takes those websites seriously, especially if you want to start working with brands. Your features will be limited and they put their ads on your website that you won’t make money from.
Its just a bad idea, trust me. Even if you are in this for just a fun hobby, if you decide down the road that you want to take blogging seriously and make money it’s a hassle switching over.
Step Three: Pick A Name For Your Mommy Blog
The third step to starting a mommy blog is a fun one, choosing a domain name. This mean picking a name for your website. For example, mine is anothermommyblogger.com
What do you want your website to be called?
I definitely advise you to give this question a lot of thought. You want something that is catchy, easy to read, and will draw attention.
You might want to think of a few because there are a lot of websites out there and your name might be taken already.
Once you think of a few good names for your mommy blog, type them into google and see if any similar ones pop up. I didn’t do this and it actually turns out that there are a few variations of my blog name out there already.
Definitely not a good thing when you are trying to stand out, whoops.
Step Four: Enter Account Information
Step four to start a mommy blog, enter your personal information.
Another easy step, just put in all your information. Just make sure the email address you give them is one that you can access. They will send you a confirmation email with your login information.
Step Five: Choose Extras (or not)
When starting a mom blog anything you can do to give yourself a leg up in the blogging world is going to help you succeed faster.
That being said, everyone financial situation is different. If you can afford it, save money by prepaying for 60 months and get all of the extras.
I couldn’t afford them all but I did go with the site lock security to protect my website, and the SEO tool start which helps me get traffic from google (which is hard to do so you’ll definitely want it)
Step Six: Enter Billing Information
This step to starting a mommy blog might have you sweating a little bit.
Filling this part out was a little scary for me too. Seriously my cursor just hovered over that little green button for a while.
At the time, I was barely working and had just a little bit of extra money saved, everything else was going towards bills.
Plus what makes me think I have what it takes to start a mom blog anyway? Aren’t the people who make money doing this super human?
SPOILER ALERT! They are not. A lot of them are just like you!
I was just like you when I started out. I didn’t know what I was doing! But I did it! I did my research, I put in the time. I took the chance, I invested in my future!
Blogging isn’t a get rich quick kind of thing, those don’t exist. It takes time, effort, passion, and dedication.
If you decide to do this, you put your payment info in there right now and you promise yourself that you are going to give it all you’ve got.
You aren’t going to give up NO MATTER WHAT. I promise you, no matter who you are, if you put in the work you will be able to make a full time income.
Step Eight: Start Building Your Site
Congratulations on starting a mommy blog! You now own a little piece of the internet!
Now comes the fun part! Using WordPress, which came free with your Bluehost website, to build your blog.
Before you begin, below are some essential tips for starting a mom blog to get you going in the right direction.
Choosing Your Mom Blog Niche
Choosing the right niche for your mom blog is crucial. It helps you focus your content and attract the right audience.
Understanding Different Niches
There are many niches to consider when starting your mom blog. Popular options include parenting, health, lifestyle, and homeschooling.
Each niche offers different topics to explore and these topics will become your menu items on your blog. For instance, a parenting blog could include tips, personal experiences, or advice about raising children. A health-focused blog might cover topics like pregnancy wellness or child nutrition.
Think about the diverse areas within motherhood and how they can cater to a broad audience. Identifying what makes each niche unique will help narrow down your options.
Aligning Your Interests
It’s essential to pick a niche you are passionate about. This passion will keep you motivated and make your writing enjoyable.
Do you love discussing pregnancy stories or sharing working mom strategies? Identifying your interests helps ensure you produce genuine and engaging content.
Reflect on what excites you about motherhood. Maybe you excel in offering expert homeschool tips or showcasing lifestyle hacks for busy parents.
By aligning your interests with your niche, your enthusiasm will resonate with your readers and keep them coming back for more.
Evaluating Market Demand
Understanding your potential audience is key. Research the demand for topics within your chosen niche.
Use tools like Google Trends or social media platforms to gauge interest.
For example, you might find a growing interest in education-focused blogs, particularly homeschooling.
Analyzing popular search terms can help you predict what your audience wants. For keyword research I like using ahrefs.
Try to find a balance between personal interest and audience demand. You want to write about topics you’re passionate about, but your posts have to meet the needs of your readers.
This will make sure that your content will not only be engaging but also relevant and in demand.
Creating a Content Strategy
You want to make sure that your mommy blog stands out and connects with my readers. To do that, you’ll need a strong content plan, a well-organized content calendar, and a focus on evergreen topics that keep your blog relevant over time.
Developing a Content Plan
To start, define the core themes and values your blog will focus on. These will become your categories and appear in your blog menu.
For example:
- Pregnancy
- Postpartum
- Baby
- Toddler
- Kids Crafts
Choosing a niche allows you to write about topics that genuinely interest you while resonating with other moms who think similarly. Authenticity is key here—you want your content to reflect your personal experiences and voice.
Once your themes is set, brainstorm a list of blog ideas and organize them into a content plan. This plan acts as a roadmap, to make sure your posts are aligned with your blog’s goals.
Incorporate a mix of personal stories, tips, and how-tos to keep my content fresh and engaging, but always remember your post need to offer something to your reader. By this it usually means answering a question or offering a solution to a problem.
Setting Up a Content Calendar
A content calendar helps you stay organized and consistent with your posting schedule.
I find that using a simple table, like the one below, helps me plan out my content for weeks or even months in advance:
Date | Topic | Type | SEO Keywords |
---|---|---|---|
Nov 20 | Parenting Tips | How-to | parenting, tips |
Nov 23 | My Daily Routine | Personal | daily routine |
Nov 30 | Meal Planning | Listicle | meal planning, mom life |
By planning ahead, I make sure to cover various topics without overwhelming myself. Plus, it helps with SEO, as I can target specific keywords relevant to my audience.
Understanding Evergreen Content
Evergreen content is a crucial part of my content strategy because it keeps readers returning to my blog long after a post is published.
These are the articles that remain relevant regardless of the season or trends.
You’ll want to focus on creating timeless pieces like parenting advice, family recipes, or budgeting tips. Such posts bring consistent traffic because they continue to be useful.
Engaging With Your Audience
Connecting with readers is essential to a successful mommy blog. By enhancing your presence on social media and offering exclusive content, it’s possible to create a loyal, engaged community.
Building Your Social Media Presence
I find that social media is a powerful tool for engaging with my audience.
Creating a Facebook page is a great start, as it provides a space for direct interaction. Sharing personal anecdotes, blog updates, and asking questions can make followers feel more connected.
Using platforms such as Instagram and Twitter can also bring traffic.
Posting content that reflects my blog’s personality helps attract subscribers. I regularly interact with followers by responding to comments and participating in relevant discussions—this fosters a sense of community.
Joining a blogging community on social media is beneficial, too. It opens avenues for collaboration and learning from others.
The biggest driver of traffic to my mommy blog has always been Pinterest for the last 7 years. As of late, competition has been growing and it has been harder to get Pinterest traffic but it’s still worth being on the platform for now.
Monetizing Your Mom Blog
Monetizing a mom blog involves various strategies to generate income. I’ll cover different methods like ads, affiliate marketing and sponsored posts, as well as selling products or services, to help you effectively make money from your mom blog.
Exploring Monetization Options
When it comes to monetizing a mom blog, there are many paths you can take.
Some popular options include advertising, affiliate marketing, sponsored content, and selling your own products or services.
When you have enough traffic to qualify you can display ads through platforms like Journey and Mediavine. This is how I make most of my money with both of my blogs.
Additionally, I can also think about creating partnerships or membership programs that entice my dedicated readers.
Affiliate Marketing Strategies
Affiliate marketing allows me to earn a commission by promoting products or services I love.
By joining affiliate programs, you can include product links in your blog or social media posts that readers might be interested in.
Pick products or brands that align with your blog’s niche, and only products you’ve used and trust so that the recommendations are genuine and build trust with your audience.
I currently use:
Understanding Sponsored Posts
Sponsored posts offer another viable way to monetize your blog.
Brands pay mom bloggers to write content featuring their products or services, providing value to their readers while generating income.
To get sponsored post opportunities, showcase high-quality content and maintain an engaged audience.
Set up a media kit with your blog’s statistics, audience demographics, and collaboration terms and add it to a page on your blog in your menu under “work with me” to attract brand to work with.
Tips for Selling Products or Services
Selling products or services is another efficient way to make money from a mom blog.
These can be physical products like crafts or downloadable resources like printables or e-books related to your blog’s theme.
Always focus on creating products that address the needs of your audience.
Exploring platforms like Etsy or Shopify provides easy-to-use avenues to list and sell items.
Promoting Your Blog
I focus on three main strategies to promote my blog effectively. These include optimizing for search engines, engaging with blogging networks, and promoting on Pinterest. Each of these strategies plays a crucial role in increasing my blog traffic and visibility.
Leveraging SEO for Increased Visibility
A solid SEO strategy enhances my blog’s visibility in search engine results.
I start by researching keywords relevant to my niche and incorporate them naturally into my content.
It’s essential to optimize my blog’s titles, headings, and meta descriptions to include these keywords.
I also pay attention to my blog’s loading speed and mobile responsiveness, which impact search rankings.
Additionally, writing high-quality, informative content encourages other blogs to link back, improving my site’s authority. Regularly updating old posts with current information helps too.
Utilizing Blogging Networks
Being part of a blogging community allows me to connect with fellow bloggers and tap into a wider audience.
I actively participate in online forums and social media groups dedicated to bloggers. By sharing insights and participating in discussions, I build relationships that can lead to collaboration opportunities.
I also make it a point to comment on other blogs within my niche, providing thoughtful feedback that encourages reciprocation.
Networking with other bloggers helps boost my blog traffic as we share each other’s content with our respective audiences.
How To Get Traffic From Pinterest
To drive Pinterest traffic to your mom blog, create visually appealing pins with engaging titles and descriptions.
Use high-quality images, relevant keywords, and link directly to your blog posts.
The most crucial tip for success on Pinterest though, is consistency. You need to consistently pin content to maintain visibility and attract a wider audience.
